YogaNurse Model of Care and YogaNursing-  Mission and Vision
To create a global army of modern nightingales, ‘Yoga Nurses”, to expand consciousness in health care, relieve stress, anxiety, pain and suffering, and create health, peace and wisdom, for nurses and patients world wide.

History and Birth of the YogaNurse Model of Care
YogaNursing officially launched in 2006, only a few years after Annette Tersigni graduated from Nursing college. The roots took hold when she took a training in Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga, in the mid 1990’s with the brilliant Deepak Chopra and David Simon MDs. At that time she was a full time yoga teacher and they inspired her. She thought “Wow! If I became a nurse as well as being a yoga teacher, I could really make a difference in the quality of people’s lives.” Once, while she was still in nursing school teaching a yoga class, one of her students called her the “yoga nurse”! That‘s when the 'Yoga Nurse' and the field of Yoga Nursing was officially born. She graduated from nursing and it became crystal clear that there was a natural fit between traditional western based nursing knowledge and the ancient eastern science of yoga. Today, YogaNursing is now an accredited and growing field in holistic nursing. YogaNurses are creating a conscious community, providing health, peace and wisdom for nurses, their patients and health care.
The YogaNurse Model of Care is endorsed by the Watson Caring Science Institute.
The Sacred Remedy Rx  is the foundation of teaching nurses stress relief. Using  Sacred Breath, Sacred Movement, Sacred Rest, and the ABCs to relieve stress, anxiety , pain and suffering for themselves and their patients. As a Certified YogaNurse®, I want to motivate and inspire nurses to relive stress, anxiety, pain and suffering with the Sacred Remedy. The Sacred Remedy is a simple, easily learned, holistic approach using breathing techniques, simple movements and rest. This easy step by step program offers relaxation, rejuvenation, serenity and peace to your central nervous system. It offers a tactical approach to use these techniques on the job, for yourself or with your patient. I am not a typical healthcare speaker who stands behind the lectern talking. I choose not to use PowerPoint.
I am the point. My nurse sisters and brothers are the point.

I have decades of clinical nursing experience. Working in hospitals, home health, pediatric head injury, corrections and as a corporate telephonic nurse coach case manager, I know the stress and expectations nurses endure.

My instructional sessions are high energy, interactive, humorous and experiential. No one sits still for long. I have a need to know why things work and why I am doing something. My presentations cover that. My perspective is based in the real world where nurses often have very little discretionary time. Yoga can work in the briefest of moments. Yoga can be safely used and taught to any patient in seconds.

Testimonials about Susan's Presentations

April 17, 2018 YogaNursing presentation to Graduating senior nursing students at Virginia Commonwealth University:
"You are right, this was the best group yet! Despite the overly large classroom size, where I've found it difficult to keep the entire group cohesive, you were able to engage them, some from way across the room. In real time, I was thinking, "You can sense a pin drop, Amazing!"

I will say also that with each visit, you are becoming more and more of a gifted, articulate, well-informed speaker! You are so seasoned with just the right amount of your splashes of wit woven in with your deep and experiential understanding of anatomy/physiology and nursing care. I could sense that the students, who consider themselves highly knowledgeable, were so impressed by that!

The students have told me that they consider it a kind gift for me to bring you to teach them self-care and that makes me so happy!" - April 18, 2018

From an Evaluation following Yoga Nursing: The Heart of Caring, Yogaville, Satchidananda Ashram- Question- 'Would you recommend this workshop to others?': "Absolutely! This class is life changing. If everyone were to incorporate just one aspect of this class into their nurse-client relationship the entire outcome of healthcare would change. Patients would experience love and health"   - March 12, 2017
Yogaville, Buckingham, VA
We truly LOVED the presentation and already have approval to invite you back for Nurses Week! Thank you for providing our staff with a unique and relaxing experience.  It has been “all the buzz.”  I cannot wait to send you the evaluations.  You can see the passion and deep respect that you have for nursing.  Very well balanced presentation: humor, gratitude, tranquility.  I was transported into a different dimension at work! Deepest Respect! - 1/7/2016

It was wonderful to have you visit our graduating Accelerated Bachelor's nursing students yesterday! The response to your lecture and demonstration was overwhelmingly positive, which is saying a lot considering the way the students typically behave during this time of the school year (i.e., irritated, ready be done already, etc.) Many students thought and suggested that your talk should occur earlier in their nursing school experience. And I agree. I will look into seeing how that might work. Others thought this was the perfect time to hear your talk as they contemplate moving forward onto their burgeoning nursing careers. Whether it occurs earlier or later in nursing education, it appears the students desire to know more about self-care and ways for preventing nurse burnout. The topics you covered were timely and the consistent connections to anatomy and physiology kept them riveted to their seats. The cell phone activity was fun and thoughtful. There was this point when all but a few of the laptops went down. I have to say, I have not seen that phenomenon the entirety of my time teaching here at VCU.
So kudos to you for having such a great impression on my sophisticated, super-bright students!

On January 7, 2016, I attended the medical grand round of the CHKD (Children's Hospital of the King's Daughter) Hospital, Norfolk, Virginia by Susan Turnage on YogaNursing. It was one of the best presentation I have experienced using yoga as therapy. Her relaxed presentation of activating parasympathetic tone through Sacred Breath, Sacred Movement and Sacred Rest was outstanding. The room was full of participants and every attendee participated with her gentle practice. I felt very relaxed with reduction of my sympathetic tone and reduction of blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate and other metabolic parameters. At the end of the presentation many participants came to her and personally congratulated her for such a wonderful presentation. They also wanted her back in future grand rounds for more experience. Personally I am very impressed with YogaNursing and highly recommending for anyone interested in the future of Yoga Therapy and the future of medicine.
